Two months have gone by since we opened our doors again. We are definitely not as full as we were in February. Only about 25% of our participants have returned to in person services. We do see others on Zoom through virtual learning, but not everyone participates in that. We are anxiously waiting for the pandemic to be over so we can all be together again, but we know it’s going to be a while.
This pause has given us time to take a look at our program and chart our path for the next years. September will be a good month for that. There are a lot of exciting things happening next month that will strengthen our foundation for the future.
We have been invited to be a part of a new program out of Frankfort. Voice 2020 help us make Sandefur Center a leader in community-based programming in our area. Much of the focus is on community integrated employment but there will also be information on other opportunities like community access and community-based day training. Beginning in September, staff here will work with experts in Frankfort to build an outcomes based strategic plan to transform our program to meet the emerging needs of those we serve. We are excited to begin this process.
This strategic initiative is coordinated through the following sponsors: the Office of Disability Employment Policy, Econsys, The Kentucky Department of Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities, The Human Development Institute at the University of Kentucky, the Kentucky Department of Education, the Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Kentucky Workplace Innovation Board, the Kentucky Department of Medicaid Services, the Kentucky Association for Private Providers, the Kentucky Association of Rehabilitation Providers, the Commonwealth Council on Developmental Disabilities, and Kentucky APSE.
We can’t wait to share our journey with you. Until then, enjoy some old photos of fun!!
